Johnson leads Panthers past Adrian

IMBLER — Kyle Johnson nearly netted a triple double, while the Imbler boys basketball cruised to a 54-25 win at home against Adrian Thursday.

Johnson, a senior, finished with 11 points, nine rebounds and eight assists against a short-handed Antelopes team. Adrian played with six players through most of the game, and had eight players in total available for the game.

Adrian went 10-of-34 from the field for the game, with four field goals in the first half, and trailed 30-8 at the intermission. Imbler shot 23-of-57 in the game, but connected on 2-of-13 from behind the 3-point arc.

Trace VanCleave had a team-high 16 points for the Panthers, while Eli Bowers added 10. Vancleave also grabbed seven rebounds.

Adrian (2-6) was led by Reagan Shira with 10 points.

Imbler (8-2) will travel to Notus, Idaho, for a 5:30 p.m. game Saturday. Adrian fell to the Pirates 50-43 Dec. 10. 

It was Notus’ (1-2) lone win this season. 

IMBLER — Not all wins come wrapped in a pretty ribbon, but Imbler girls basketball coach Barry Bowers will take what he got Thursday.

His team came away with a 28-19 win against Adrian.

The Panthers lone bright spot came off the bench. Katie Barry had a team-high 10 points. Six of those points came in the closing 5:25 of the fourth quarter. The Panthers had just one field goal in 13 minutes to start the second half. 

Lexee Robertson added five points for the Panthers.

Adrian (4-3) was led by Quincy Pendergrass with 10 points.

Imbler (7-3) will travel to Notus, Idaho for a 4 p.m. tipoff Saturday. The Panthers have won three of their last four games. The Pirates are 2-4 overall.
