Huskies win in overtime

Elgin hits free throws in overtime to defeat Outlaws  

ELGIN — The Elgin girls basketball team picked up an overtime win against Enterprise Tuesday.

The Outlaws’ McKenna Miller hit the shot to send the game into the overtime period, but it wasn’t enough as Enterprise fell 51-49. 

Miller’s 3-point shot at the buzzer sent the visiting fans into a frenzy. 

But the attitude soon switched when the Huskies started knocking down shots from the free-throw line.

Elgin went 7-of-10 in overtime to hold on for the win.

Katie Witherspoon finished with a team-high 13 points, while Miah Slater scored 10 points.

Jordyn Anderson scored nine points, while Cheyanne Wilhelm added seven points off the bench.

Enterprise was led by Hayley Riggs with 16 points. Tiffanie George finished with 10 points. Miller and Carsen Sojonia each scored nine points.

Elgin improved to 2-2 in the Blue Mountain Conference with the win, and 4-7 overall. 

Enterprise drops to 1-3 in conference play and 4-6 overall.

The Outlaws will host Stanfield in a make-up game Friday at 6 p.m.

The Huskies will travel to Union for a 6 p.m. tipoff also on Friday.
