After a strong first half the Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team didn’t have enough left in the tank to finish off No. 23 College of Idaho.

The Mountaineers went 11-of-28 from the floor in the second half during a 75-67 loss. EOU trailed by as much as 10 points in the opening half, but a lay-in by Kevin Attila tied the game 33-all as the teams headed to the locker room.

Demetrius Perkins and the Yotes took advantage of their extra trips to the free-throw line. Perkins went 6-of-7 from the charity stripe, and College of Idaho went 19-of-26 from the free-throw line to pull out the win.

EOU made 10-of-19 attempts from the free-throw line.

The Mountaineers got to within five points, 66-61, with three minutes left in the game after a Tony Eackles Jr. field goal. Eackles Jr., the leading scorer coming into the game for EOU, struggled from the field in the opening half and finished with 12 points.

Trevor Phillips led the team with 14 points, while Derek Maloney scored 10 points.

Perkins had a game-high 22 points for the Yotes. Ben Van Lith scored 19 points.

The Mountaineers (11-6 overall, 2-5 CCC) dropped to 7-2 at home. EOU returns to action at home against Northwest Christian University Friday at 7:30 p.m.
