It took everything the No. 13 Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team had to pull out a win against rival College of Idaho.

A missed free throw actually paid of for the Mountaineers during an 85-83 win in Quinn Coliseum Friday night.

Brittney Newcomb went to the free-throw line after getting fouled on a 3-point shot with EOU trailing 83-81. Newcomb made the first two, but missed the third. Fortunately, Kassy Larson reeled in the rebound with 15 seconds left to play. Newcomb's attempt at a game-winner was blocked out of bounds with four seconds left in the game. Maloree Moss found Nikki Osborne on the inbound pass for a lay-in to grab an 85-83 lead.

Everyone had to hold their breath as Elisha Hensey’s halfcourt shot rimmed out at the buzzer.

Newcomb led the Mountaineers with 33 points, while Larson added a season-high 20 points. Larson added 16 rebounds, with 12 coming on the offensive end. Nicole Redd score 16 points, while Osborne finished with 10 points.

College of Idaho was led by Dana Drager with 18 points. Hensey and Aleah Lowber each scored 17 points.

The Mountaineers (15-4 overall, 7-0 CCC) will host Northwest Christian University Friday at 5:30 p.m.
