Transportation commission meets

The North East Area Commission on Transportation will hold its next meeting from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Oregon Department of Transportation Region 5 headquarters, 3012 Island Ave. The public is invited.

The NEACT is comprised of transportation stakeholders from Morrow, Umatilla, Union, Wallowa and Baker counties, and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.

Time has been set aside for public comments regarding project proposals and other transportation-related topics.

Landscape commission meets 

Spring tree planting and the Arbor Day Poster Contest will be discussed when the Community Landscape and Forestry Commission meets in regular session at 5:30 p.m. tonight in the parks Department Conference Room, 2402 Cedar St.

Parks commission meets Thursday 

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission will hold its regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Conference Room of the Parks and Recreation Department office, 2402 Cedar St. The commission will review two grant proposals regarding upgrades to Max Square and Pioneer Park.

January averages warmer than normal 

Temperatures at La Grande averaged slightly warmer than normal during January.

According to preliminary data received by the National Weather Service, the average temperature was 32.5 degrees, or 1 degree above normal. High temperatures averaged 41.2 degrees, or 2.8 degrees above normal. The highest was 49 degrees on Jan. 11. 

Low temperatures averaged 23.8 degrees, or 0.7 degrees below normal. The lowest was 14 degrees, on Jan. 5. There were 27 days with the low temperature below 32 degrees.

Precipitation totaled 1.80 inches, which was 0.17 inches above normal. Measurable precipitation — at least .01 inch — was received on eight days with the heaviest, 0.40 inches, reported on Jan. 29.

Precipitation was 1.80 inches, .17 inches above normal.

Snowfall totaled 3 inches. The heaviest snowfall was 2 inches reported on Jan. 8. The greatest depth of snow on the ground was 2 inches on Jan. 8.

The highest wind gust was 44 mph, which occurred on Jan. 11.
