Add Union County to the list of municipalities exploring a medical marijuana moratorium.

During a regular session of the Union County Board of Commissioners last week, the commissioners decided to look into the idea of placing a one-year moratorium on dispensaries.

The Oregon Legislature in March passed a bill that gives local governments the authority to place one-year moratoriums on dispensaries, but they must be in place by May 1.

Union County Planning Director Hanley Jenkins said the county moratorium would apply to non-incorporated areas of the county, with the intent to allow the state and local governments time to establish regulations of the dispensaries.
