The Union County Democrats will meet at 5 p.m. May 7 in the second floor conference room of the Sac Annex.

Kids Bicycle Safety Rodeo unfolds Friday

Kids Bicycle Safety Rodeo will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday on Elm Street in La Grande, next to Mountain Works Bicycles, 1301 Adams Ave. Patricia McClure, Oregon Department of Transportation safety educator, will conduct the event. Children young and young at heart are encouraged to attend. The event is a chance to learn the safe way to travel by bicycle. For more information, call 541-534-2008.

Master Gardener class offered Tuesday

The next Master Gardener class will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Union County 4-H & Extension Education Center, 10507 N. McAlister Road. This week’s topic will be wildlife management for the home gardener. OSU Professor and Extension Wildlife Specialist Dana Sanchez from Corvallis will discuss how to control wildlife such as deer, rodents and other vertebrates, as well as how to create butterfly and bird-friendly gardens. The public is welcome to attend at a drop-in rate of $10 per person (cash/check only). Refreshments will be served.

Grande Tour Spring Ride sets registration 

Grande Tour Spring Ride registration will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Mountain Works Bicycles, 1301 Adams Ave. Proceeds will be used to enhance the 134-mile Grande Tour Scenic Bikeway. This will be a weekend ride with a no-host overnight in Baker City. For more information, call 541-534-2008.

Driver education class starts June 2

A driver education class sponsored by the Malheur Education Service District, Vale, will take place at the regional Department of Motor Vehicles building right behind the DMV office, 3012 Island Ave., at 6 p.m. June 2. The cost is $250. People should bring a copy of their learner permit. Any young person completing the driver education program will no longer have to do the drive portion of the test when applying for a driver license.

Quality training class offered Thursday 

An Oregon QRIS Increasing Quality Training class will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the employment office, 1901 Adams Ave., Suite 3. The class is free and open to the public.
