Both east bound lanes of Interstate 84 five miles east of La Grande was closed for about an hour this afternoon because of a truck fire.

The fire started about 2:45 p.m. and involved a truck carrying 41,000 pounds of frozen salmon, said Jim Voelz, a volunteer with the La Grande Rural Fire Department, which responded to the fire.

The south side east bound lane reopened about 4 p.m.

The driver of the truck, Irfan Kurtagic, 50, of Vancouver, Wash., suffered from smoke inhalation and received burns to the hair on his arms. He declined to be transported by ambulance to Grande Ronde Hospital.
