Richard William Toomb

La Grande


Richard William Toomb, 72, died at his home in La Grande July 5. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Center for Human Development Community Room.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his sisters, Betty Phifer and Dorothy Scott. Richard will be remembered for his sense of humor, his big smile and his affection for his roommates and his many friends.


Donna Lea (Quarry) Sommer

Formerly of La Grande


Donna Lea Sommer, 77, of La Pine and formerly of La Grande, died June 29. Celebration of life services and a reception will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Living Waters Church, La Pine.  

Memorial contributions may be made to Partners in Care, 2075 N.E. Wyatt Court, Bend OR 97701. Baird Memorial Chapel of La Pine is handling arrangements.


Winona L. Thompson


Winona L. Thompson, 71, of Elgin, died Tuesday in Elgin. A full obituary will be published later. Loveland Funeral Chapel will be handling the arrangements.


Doris Minnie Allen

Formerly of La Grande


Doris Minnie Allen, 80, longtime Umatilla resident, died July 2 at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Wash. 

A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Umatilla. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the Grandview Cemetery in La Grande.

Dorothy ‘Dottie’ Ann Straight

Dorothy “Dottie” Ann Straight, 91, of La Grande, died at a local care facility July 3. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Loveland Funeral Chapel.

Ruth Marie (Hunter) Shuman, 76, of Lostine, died May 3 at her seasonal home in Yuma, Ariz.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. July 18 at the Lostine Cemetery. A reception will follow at Ruth and Alden’s home by the Lostine River.
