Two La Grande men were arrested Monday on drug charges in the wake of a Union County Drug Task Force investigation.

Joshua Alan Johnson, 32, and Craig Dooley, 44, were arrested and are being held in the Union County Jail after methamphetamine and narcotics were seized, according to a press release from the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

UCSO Sgt. Bill Miller said just over two ounces of meth was discovered during a search.

The press release said suspicious activity was reported near Fir Street and Y Avenue in La Grande. According to Miller, the investigation began during surveillance in the vicinity.

“Field contact turned into an investigation,” he said.

Johnson was arrested and charged with probation violation as well as possession of a controlled substance, distribution of a controlled substance and manufacturing a controlled substance, all methamphetamine.

He was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance and distribution of a controlled substance (methadone and oxycodone).

Bail for Johnson was set at $92,500.

Dooley was arrested for a probation violation. He was also charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).

Bail for Dooley was set at $10,000.

Both men have a number of previous arrests in Union County. Dooley has a record of arrests stemming from charges in the early 1990s and has a number of drug, theft and trespassing charges. Johnson was arrested for possession of meth in 2013 and felon in possession of a restricted weapon, according to court records.
