An empty spot was filled in the Liberty Theater tonight.

Though lights were dim, and there was no working heat, members of the community showed up in support of La Grande Liberty Theater's open house, as co-chair Dale Mammen explained the history of the large chandelier sitting in the middle of the room.
Most likely first hung in the 1920's the chandelier had been hidden from sight until 2009, Mammen said. But after sending it to California to be refurbished, the chandelier will soon hang back in its original space.
The chandelier wasn't the only exciting thing the Liberty Theater experienced tonight, as Senator Bill Hansell informed the audience that the state of Oregon had made a cash appropriation of $200,000 to the refurbishing of the theater.
