The service at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in La Grande will begin at 9 a.m. The service will include prayers for veterans and a gospel lesson on the parable of the wise and foolish bridesmaids. Book Club meets at 6 p.m. Sunday in the parish hall.
St. Ann’s Guild will be setting up for the Nov. 18 Holiday Bazaar on weekday mornings. At 8:30 a.m. in the chapel, Centering Prayer will be offered on Tuesday and Morning Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer will be offered on Thursday. A midweek Eucharist is held at 12:15 Wednesday, also in the chapel.
Faith necessary in a world of uncertainty
La Grande First United Methodist Church will celebrate the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost at 10 a.m. with Pastor Al Trachsel. His sermon, “Being Prepared in a World of Uncertainty,” will be drawn from Matthew 25:1-13, in which Jesus tells those who have ears to hear that faith is the foundation of
being prepared for uncertainty.
Evening service held in Cove
COVE — At the Calvary Baptist Church in Cove, Sunday school will be offered at 10 a.m. The service will follow at 11 a.m., and there will also be a 6 p.m. evening service.
A women’s Bible study will meet at 9:30 a.m. Monday. Women are also invited to join in the late-morning “Ladies Project Time” on Wednesdays. At 7 p.m. Wednesday, a time of devotions and prayer will be open to all.
Common Prayer commemorates the Reformation
Zion Lutheran Church in La Grande will worship at 9:30 a.m. with Pastor Colleen Nelson. A children’s class is offered during the sermon, and fellowship and fair trade coffee will follow the service. At 3 p.m. Sunday, the Catholic congregants will join Zion Lutheran for a service of Common Prayer commemorating the Reformation. A reception will follow.
Neighbors Together will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday. On Tuesday, a nondenominational Bible study is held in the fellowship hall at 6:15 p.m. The LGBTQ Community Group will meet at 6 p.m.
Transportation available to activities
COVE — Grace Community Lutheran Church in Cove will celebrate the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost with a worship service at 10 a.m. Pastor Carl’s sermon will be “The Bridegroom Comes,” taken from Matthew 25. Adult Bible study will start at 9 a.m. Fellowship will follow the service. A men’s Bible study will meet 10 a.m. Thursday at City Hall in Island City. Transportation is available for all church activities.
Free dinner focuses on blessings
La Grande Church of Christ is hosting a dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 16.
This will be free of charge to anyone who would like to come and tell how they’ve been blessed in the last year. It will be a ham dinner with all the fixings and there will be a lentil loaf for vegetarians.
Study of Luther’s theses continues
At the 11 a.m. Saturday service at the La Grande Seventh-day Adventist Church, Pastor Mike will continue his presentation on the most significant of Martin Luther’s 95 theses. In 1517, the Protestant Reformation was born when Luther nailed his theses to the Castle Church door in Wittenberg, Germany. A Prophecy Seminar is just starting for anyone in the community who would like to know what relevance, hope and significance Bible prophecy holds in today’s world. The classes are held at 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in the seminar room on the west end of the church. Each attendee will receive free lesson materials, a notebook binder and a KJV Bible if needed.
Church collects boxes for Operation Christmas Child
“Have We Lost God?” will be the message Pastor Ray Smith will share at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at the 10 a.m. worship service. He will speak on letting the love of God pour from our lives and our mouths, referring to Romans 10:8-13.
Immediately following the service will be a potluck and packing party for Operation Christmas Child. The church is a drop-off center for OCC and will be collecting filled shoe boxes until Nov. 20.
Services held in La Grande, Enterprise
The sermon at Faith Lutheran Church will be based on Matthew 25, focusing on Christ’s urgency for mankind to be watchful and prepared. Verses 1-13 are Jesus’ parable of the 10 maidens waiting for the bridegroom, of which only five came prepared. Services will be at 10 a.m. in La Grande and 2 p.m. in Enterprise.
