Ice cream social and auction benefits Union VFW Hall
UNION — There will be an ice cream social/silent auction at the VFW High Valley Post 4060 in Union from
6 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 20. The auction will raise money for a new bingo board. The money brought in by the ongoing bingo games at the VFW Hall supports the post. Union businesses and artists have donated items to the auction, including the ice cream. Tickets for a raffle will also be on sale. La Grande School District board meets for weekend retreat
The Board of Directors of the La Grande School District will meet for a special board retreat July 14-15. The meetings will take place at Inlow Hall in the Dixie Lund Room on the Eastern Oregon University campus. The purpose of the retreat is to discuss district needs based on survey data collected, board operating procedures, communication protocols and the Superintendent’s Entry Plan and Goals.
Free foreign film shown at library
La Grande’s Cook Memorial Library is showing a free foreign move at 7 p.m. July 14. “Song from the Southern Seas” is a 2008 Russia/Kazakhstan film with subtitles. Light refreshments will be provided.
School board to elect chairperson and vice
IMBLER — The Imbler School District Board of Directors will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. July 18 in Room 1 of the high school. The public is welcome to attend all open sessions of the Imbler School Board. The board will be electing a chairperson and vice-chairperson.
Class offered in relief printmaking and block printing
Beginning classes in relief printmaking and block printing are being offered from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. July 18 and July 20 at Art Center East, 1006 Penn Ave., La Grande. Participants will learn about the tools and materials used in printmaking while carving and then printing their own design. The two-day class is taught by Kari Seidel and will cost $40 for members and $50 for non-members, plus $10 for materials. Talk focuses on ‘Nez Perce Life in the Wallowas’
JOSEPH — The Josephy Center for Arts and Culture will be offering an overview of the Wallowa Band Nez Perce’s culture at 7 p.m. July 19. The overview will be given by Tim Nitz and will examine the roles of men, women, youth and the elderly and how they interacted with the land, flora and fauna of Wallowa County.
