ENTERPRISE — City Administrator Michele Young sat at a plastic folding table Friday in a room where she and staff members Lacy McQuead and Gina Birkmaier have set up a temporary office. A canister of red licorice sat among the makeshift desks and personal cellphones, computers and printers the women are using. The suite has wireless Internet connectivity and hard-wired phones will be installed soon.

The city staff are trying to conduct business as usual in the aftermath of a fire that destroyed the Enterprise City Hall offices on July 10. City staff have relocated to 117 East Main Street.

A fire destroyed the con tents of the city’s two offices just before 7 p.m. July 10. By the end of the week, the staff was setting up shop downtown in the EMM building where Dr. Rusty Wood had his medical practice until a couple years ago, one of the few offices in town that was move-in ready.

“We just lucked out,” Young said.
