SPIRITUAL HIGHLIGHTS: Smart Money livestream hosted by Valley Fellowship


On Nov. 7, Valley Fellowship in La Grande will be hosting a Dave Ramsey Smart Money event, livestreamed from Phoenix beginning at 5 p.m. The public is invited to come to the free Financial Peace University workshop and learn how to dump their debt and build wealth. Message looks at true happiness

COVE — Grace Community Lutheran Church in Cove will celebrate All Saints Sunday with a special worship service beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Carl will preach from Matthew 5, in which Jesus tells the people about true happiness. Adult Sunday school will start at 9 a.m. and fellowship will follow the service.

A men’s Bible study meets Thursday at the City Hall in Island City at 10 a.m. Transportation is available for all church activities.

Bazaar includes fresh hot donuts

The 9:30 a.m. worship service at the First Presbyterian Church in La Grande will include a sermon entitled “The Saints Who Made Him Moses,” based on Deuteronomy 34:1-12 and Exodus 1:8-2:10.

The annual Presbyterian Women’s Holiday Bazaar will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 4 in the Presbyterian Friendship Center. Freshly made doughnuts will be served. The weekly Community Fellowship Dinner is held at 6 p.m. Wednesdays in the Friendship Center. Everyone is welcome and the suggested donation for dinner is $2.75.

St. Ann’s Guild meets next Friday

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in La Grande will observe All Saints Day with an Iona Eucharist at 9 a.m. The Rev. Kathryn Macek will preside and preach. A festive coffee hour will follow in the parish hall where members will bid farewell to Arnold and Jean Coe who are moving to Washington state.

Centering Prayer will be held Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. in the chapel. St. Ann’s Guild will meet Friday at 2 p.m. in the parish hall. The office will be closed next week and there will not be services on Wednesday or Thursday while the rector is attending a clergy meeting.

Children’s class offered during sermon

Zion Lutheran Church in La Grande will worship at 9:30 a.m. with Pastor Colleen Nelson. A children’s class will be offered during the sermon. Fellowship and fair trade coffee follow the service.

Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. a non-denominational Bible study will take place in the fellowship hall.

Pastor explains Luther’s biblical ‘lightning bolts’

Saturday’s 11 a.m. service at the La Grande Seventh-day Adventist Church will focus on the beginning of the Protestant Reformation, when Martin Luther nailed his famous 95 Theses to the Wittenberg Castle church door in 1517. Pastor Mike will present Luther’s five prime biblical “lightning bolts” that were in response to the spiritual abuses of the Roman church and today still form the basis of Protestantism.

Potluck, meetings follow service

The sermon at Faith Lutheran Church in La Grande will focus on Jesus announcing the blessing of receiving mercy. God has shown great mercy to mankind through Jesus Christ’s work and desires everyone to share in it. Following the 10 a.m. Divine Service is the First Sunday Potluck, a SHINE Preschool Board meeting and an elders’ meeting.

Cinnamon rolls and soup served at Saturday’s bazaar

Pastor Ray Smith will deliver a message entitled “Momentary Troubles” at La Grande’s First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at the 10 a.m. service. Speaking from 2 Corinthians 4:13-18, he will address dealing with worry and anxiety.

The Christian Women’s Fellowship will hold its annual Fall Harvest Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 4. Fresh homemade cinnamon rolls will be available in the coffee corner from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and a turkey and homemade noodle soup lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Echo of praise congregation welcomes guest speaker

The Echo of Praise Church in La Grande will worship at 10:30 a.m. The guest speaker will be Rev. Ed Jones from Ogden, Utah, an ordained minister with the Pentecostal Church of God. He and his wife, Bettie, have been in ministry for 48 years and have pastored churches in Oregon, California and Utah.
