Nobody was injured in a recreational vehicle fire on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2023, just west of the intersection of Island Avenue and 26th Street, La Grande. The fire started at about 8:30 p.m. while the RV was parked, according to the La Grande Police Department. Two people were inside the RV at the time and both escaped safely. Eastbound and westbound traffic was shut down on Island Avenue for varying periods but by 9 p.m. lanes of traffic in both directions were restored. Those responding to the fire included the La Grande Fire Department, the La Grande Police Department, the Union County Sheriff's Office and the Oregon State Police. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
