Fruits: Ogden will ensure job and income opportunities for Oregonians

To the Editor:

Now that Oregon voters have received their ballots for the May primary election, I hope they take the time to vote in the nonpartisan race for Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor and Industries.

I urge voters to mark their ballot for Lou Ogden for BOLI Commissioner.

For more than 20 years, Lou has been the nonpartisan Mayor of the City of Tualatin, one of the fastest-growing medium-sized cities in the U.S. Under his leadership, the city has seen employment opportunities increase and incomes rise.

For employees, contractors and business owners, BOLI Commissioner may be the most important statewide elected office. As a farmer and insurance broker, Lou knows this. It is a position that requires fair dealing and careful balancing of labor and business interests.

Lou Ogden’s focus on skills training and apprenticeship programs will ensure job and income opportunities for all Oregonians.

Walls: Lackey is prepared to roll up his sleeves and get to work for entire county

To the Editor:

Voting is a right and a privilege. We are in the midst of an election for Union County Commissioner. I feel there is one candidate who stands out, and that person is John Lackey.

In my dealings with John, I have found him to be well informed on the issues at hand, and he does his research before he speaks his suggestions or solutions. John served on the La Grande City Council and has owned his own businesses for many years. He is supportive of local businesses and he knows the need for a well-trained workforce. His open-door policy makes me feel welcome and he values my opinion.

I reviewed John’s weekly messages on his website and understand how important and encompassing the job of a county commissioner is. I agree with John: this is a full-time job demanding a great deal of time and energy. John has assured the citizens of Union County in his weekly messages that he will be a full-time commissioner, that he is concerned about how the budget is used and will take a holistic approach to decision-making by researching issues and studying the effects of the solutions to be sure they will benefit the county.

My impression is that John regards this job as county commissioner very seriously and is prepared to roll up his sleeves and get to work for all the communities of Union County. I feel confident voting for John Lackey. He is willing and able to effectively lead and collaborate with the other commissioners and government agencies to bolster the economic stability of our county.

Mammen: McDaniel has a proven trusted reputation and record

To the Editor:

I urge the residents of Union County to support Kelsie McDaniel, incumbent for Union County District Attorney.

Kelsie represents maturity and experience in the position. She is a member in good standing with the Oregon State Bar since 2008 and has been with the office of Union County District Attorney since 2010, first serving as a
deputy and then as district attorney since 2014. She is trustworthy and fully accepts responsibility for the hundreds of decisions a DA must make in serving.

Please support the candidate for Union County District Attorney who has a proven trusted reputation and record, one who is honest and ethical, one who has matured as a prosecutor in our county: Kelsie McDaniel.
