NORTH POWDER — North Powder, which is about halfway between La Grande and Baker City on Interstate 84, was not inundated with eclipse seekers over the weekend, although Monday was busier than usual.

The town’s café, convenience store, motel and card-lock gas pumps provide the only such services on I-84 in the 45 miles between the two cities.

“We weren’t expecting a whole lot of traffic here because we weren’t experiencing totality,” said Beth Wendt, North Powder’s city recorder.
