Harley Davis went 7-for-7 from the plate over two games, Jenna Monson picked up two wins, and Union/Cove earned a pair of 12-2 victories over Heppner/Ione Wednesday, setting up a showdown for first place with two-time defending state champion Pilot Rock/Nixyaawii.

“At any time, anyone could get up there and get us a big hit. We strung a few hits together and scored some runs,” head coach Paul Phillips said. “Defensively, we made the routine plays.”

Union/Cove 12, Heppner/Ione 2: Davis had four hits and drove in three runs and scored twice in the opener as the Lady Cats scored the game’s first 10 runs. Union/Cove broke the game open with a six-run third inning to take a 9-0 lead. The frame was highlighted by a Brianna Kohr three-run triple.

Monson and Ellie Clark had three hits, and Clark and Katie Good both added two RBIs. Monson allowed six hits, walked one and struck out three.

Union/Cove 12, Heppner/Ione 2: Davis had three more hits and drove in two runs, Monson and Taylor Baremore also had two RBIs and the Lady Cats again broke the game open with a six-run third.

A bases-loaded walk and a Davis RBI single put Union/Cove up, 4-0. A running scoring on a passed ball and a two-run triple by Baremore pushed it to 7-0.

Delanie Kohr scored three runs and Baremore, Davis is Kortnee Marriott scored twice. Monson surrendered just five hits and struck out four.

Union/Cove (9-2 overall, 4-0 Special District 6) hosts the Rockets for first in SD6 Saturday.

“It just sets the stage for Saturday,” Phillips said.
