Sunday’s Games

The Dalles vs. Del Norte, California, 9:30 a.m. elimination game

Clackamas vs. La Grande, noon, elimination game

Sprague vs. Klamath Falls, 2:30 p.m.

Beaverton Aloha vs. Wilshire-Riverside, 5 p.m.

This post has been updated to reflect a corrected score.

Wilshire-Riverside took its first step toward a state championship, while at the same time exacted some revenge and knocking La Grande into the loser’s bracket.

Wilshire scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to break a 3-all tie and went on to knock off host La Grande, 5-3, in the first round of the Oregon State Little League Tournament Saturday evening at Mel Fischer Field.

Cameron Ames broke the tie by hitting into a fielder’s choice in the sixth with two runners on. A dropped third strike one batter later allowed Wilshire an added insurance run.

It was the third year in a row Wilshire and La Grande have played at state. Wilshire won in 2015 before La Grande defeated Wilshire, 9-8, in an elimination game last year.

La Grande struggled in the field, committing three errors and having other miscues. A hit batter, walk, wild pitch and error all helped contribute to Wilshire’s runs in the decisive inning.

La Grande took a 1-0 first-inning lead. Jace Schow singled with one out and scored on a two-out single by Cesar Rodriguez.

Wilshire took a 2-1 lead in the third on a two-run double by Jonah Landwhehr-Askew. He later scored on a passed ball for a 3-1 advantage. La Grande evened the score in the fourth on a Brady Hutchins solo home run and a Sam Tsiatsos RBI single.

With the loss, La Grande plays Clackamas at noon Sunday in an elimination game.
