La Grande boys soccer team escaped Ontario with a 2-0 Greater Oregon League win in its regular season finale Saturday.

Deric Mussatto recorded five saves for La Grande, which edged Ontario in shots, 9-7.

LHS girls finish perfect regular season

The La Grande girls soccer team finished off a perfect regular season with a 6-1 win at Ontario in Greater Oregon League play Saturday.

It’s the first perfect regular season for the Tigers (12-0-0 overall, 6-0-0 GOL) since they won all 13 regular season games in 2013. That team won its first 16 games on the way to a berth in the state title game.

Alaina Carson recorded three goals — all in the first half — and Rebecca Conklin added a goal for a 4-1 lead at the break.

Head coach Kristen Rice was pleased with how her team responded after Ontario’s goal made it 1-all.

“They did score, but we didn't let it faze us. We kept playing our game,” she said. “We were able to get goals quickly, which we needed after them scoring against us.”

Caiya Chandler and Liz Babcock added goals in the second half for the final margin.

Conklin also had two assists, and Carson, Babcock and Irelyn Miles added assists. Faith Akers made seven saves.

La Grande finished with 29 shots on the afternoon.

La Grande is off until Oct. 31, when it will host a first-round state playoff game against an opponent yet to be determined.
