The Eastern Oregon women’s soccer team is one win away from its first Cascade Collegiate Conference title.

Cailin Koupal broke a scoreless tie in the 60th minute, Taylor Boyer iced the game with a goal with less than three minutes to play and the Mountaineers rebounded from its first CCC loss to beat Northwest Christian, 2-0, Friday afternoon.

The victory moves EOU to 8-1-1 on the season with one game to play — Saturday’s showdown against Corban, which comes in at 7-2-1. A win by EOU would lock up the CCC crown. A win by Corban, coupled with a loss or tie by Rocky Mountain, would give the Warriors the CCC title. Rocky Mountain can also still claim the CCC with a win and a Corban win or a Corban/EOU tie.

EOU could also clinch the CCC with a tie if Rocky Mountain tied or lost.

EOU spent the entire match on the offensive, registering 26 shots on the afternoon, but failed to break through against NCU goalkeeper Katie Hastings, who had seven first-half saves.

Koupal finally snapped the tie, scoring off a perfectly-placed free kick by Chelsey Nicol for the 1-0 lead.

Boyer added the late insurance goal in the 88th minute. Eastern goalkeeper Cydni Cottrell recorded three saves as EOU registered its ninth shutout and limited the Beacons to five shots.

Makenna Hadaller had six saves in the second half for NCU.
