Blake McNall took second place at 133 pounds to lead the Eastern Oregon men’s wrestling team to a fifth-place finish at the Mike Clock Open Sunday in Forest Grove.
McNall won three matches, including a semifinal bout against Simon Fraser’s Ty Peth by an 8-6 decision, to reach the title match. There, he fell by a 6-3 decision to Highline Community College’s Austin Wallace-Lister.
Drake Randall took third at 157 pounds by going 5-1. He reached the semifinals, where he lost to Isaiah Diggs of Clackamas Community College by a 5-3 decision, but rebounded to win his consolation semifinal match by a 7-2 decision over Cerritos College’s Wyatt Gerl before taking the third-place match by forfeit.
Eric Fan was also a third-place finisher, going 4-1 at 197. He reached the semis before losing to Simon Fraser’s Morgan Smith by a 12-4 major decision, then beat HCC’s Emmanuel Diagbe by decision, 8-3, and won via forfeit in the third-place match.
Also placing was AJ Rockwell, who came in fourth at 141. He won his consolation semifinal over Southern Oregon’s Andrew Smith by a 3-2 decision, but dropped the third-place match by forfeit, and finished 5-2.
Not placing, but posting solid records on the day were Jacob Dupuis, who went 5-2 at 165, KJ Swanson, who was 4-2 at 165, Jacob Poset, who went 3-2 at 149 and Ryan Ninman, who went 3-2 at 133.
On the women’s side, Amber Pair took second at 116 in a round robin format to lead EOU to fourth place. She posted a 3-1 record, including a win by decision over SOU’s Olivia Loppolo, 12-5. Her lony loss was a 10-0 technical fall to Katy Funai of Warner Pacific.
Alexis Cavero also took second, reaching the championship at 155. She topped Grays Harbor’s Jenae Shannon by fall in the semis — one of two pins she recorded — but fell by a 10-0 technical fall to Alyvia Fisk of Simon Fraser in the title match.
Renay Monahan took fourth for the Mountaineers at 143 with a 3-2 mark. She topped Umpqua Community College’s Pamela Beans in the semifinals by technical fall, 12-2, but was pinned by SOU’s Sienna Ramirez in the third-place match.
The Mountaineers host SOU Friday.
