EOU women win thriller against Northwest; men battle to draw

The Eastern Oregon women's soccer team won its Cascade Collegiate Conference opener in thrilling fashion.

Anna Roslander scored the game-winning goal in the 80th minute as the Mountaineers rallied in the second half for a 2-1 win over Northwest Friday afternoon.

Roslander scored on a loose ball in front of the net, the second time EOU scored on a rebound on the afternoon. Natalie Mitchell tied the score in the 46th minute on a second chance to even the score.

The Eagles scored early, taking a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute on a goal by Sharaya Roberts. Northwest continued its solid attack through the first half, outshooting EOU 10-4, including 4-1 in shots on goal, but was unable to extend its lead.

On the afternoon, Northwest outshot Eastern 18-12, and had a 8-4 edge in shots on goal.

Cydni Cottrell recorded seven saves for EOU, including two leaping saves during a Northwest flurry in the second half with the score tied.

EOU (2-2-1 overall, 1-0-0 CCC) continues action Saturday against Northwest.

EOU men tie with Eagles

The Eastern Oregon men's soccer team scored early, had a slew of chances in the second overtime, but was forced to settle for a 1-all draw in Cascade Collegiate Conference action Friday afternoon.

Julian Wells scored for EOU in the sixth minute for the early lead.

Eastern dominated early, but Northwest settled into the match and had opportunities, though it still trailed 1-0 at the break.

That changed early in the second half when Obi Esonu scored in the 51st minute to knot the score.

EOU continued to have chances to take the win, especially early in the second overtime with a barrage in front of the net, but was unable to come away with the golden goal.

The Mountaineers edged the Eagles in shots, 21-17, and both teams had six shots on goal. Aiden Wright collected four saves for EOU.

The Mountaineers (4-1-1 overall, 1-0-1 CCC) host Evergreen Saturday.
