Elgin picked up a pair of Special District 6 wins at home Tuesday, edging Grant Union, 1-0 and 6-5.

Caleb Lathrop pitched 6-1/3 innings, allowing just two hits while striking out six batters. Jack Lathrop struck out two batters late to earn the win.
“They’re pitching fantastic,” head coach Gregg Luse said of the Lathrops. “They’re doing unbelievable. I can’t be more proud of the way they are throwing.”
Elgin 6, GU 5: The Huskies scored four runs in the first inning, then broke a 4-all tie with two runs in the fifth to hold on for the sweep.
Kendrick Johnson and Brandon Howes both had two hits for Elgin. Jack Lathrop threw 4-1/3 innings and gave up four runs on five hits while striking out two. Jordan Palmer tossed the 2/3 innings for the save, working out of a jam with the tying run on third base.
“In years past, we haven’t been able to finish a (close) game, a one-run game,” Luse said. “This team, they are so mature. They are able to finish games.”
Elgin (4-2 overall, 4-2 SD6) visits Culver Friday for a league doubleheader.
