Top-seeded Powder Valley upset twice, misses out on state bid

The potential third showdown between Powder Valley and Joseph at the Old Oregon League tournament Saturday never took place.

Joseph did its part on the way to an OOL district tournament title, but the Badgers, the No. 1 seed, shockingly bowed out short of a state playoff berth.

Instead, the Eagles rolled over Echo in the championship match, 25-14, 25-22, 25-9, behind a balanced attack.

“I feel like every year we just kept getting a little bit closer and a little bit closer,” head coach Jill Hite said. “This year was just the year that these guys were really focused, and that (a district title) is what they wanted.”

The championship match was all about balance for the Eagles, who overpowered Echo especially, in the final set.
