The owner of one of La Grande’s newest businesses wasn’t completely convinced that the local market for his services could satisfy his business needs.

But less than two weeks after opening his doors in La Grande, Todd Stern, owner and operator of Rocky Mountain Exteriors, said he has been pleasantly surprised at how well the company is doing in its new location.

The decision to open an office in La Grande came after Stern’s marketing partner, Cline Marketing Solutions, approached him with the idea.

After conducting some marketing research and talking with Bob Kavanaugh, executive director of the Union County Chamber of Commerce, Stern decided to move forward with the idea.

“Bob Kavanaugh did an excellent job of convincing me La Grande would be a great place to open a new office,” Stern said.

Stern, whose business is based in Boise, said Rocky Mountain Exteriors has already installed three new roofs and has six more in the works.

“To say we’re on the right track is an understatement,” Stern said.

Rocky Mountain Exteriors’ Eastern Oregon service area includes Baker City, Union, Cove, Imbler and Summerville, according to its website.

The business specializes in re-roofing both residential and commercial buildings. It also offers roofing repair and maintenance and installs doors, gutters, windows and attic insulation.

With an extensive portfolio, the company recently won a GAF President’s Club Award. This designation by GAF, North America’s largest manufacturer of commercial and residential roofing, recognizes Rocky Mountain Exteriors as a “Master-Elite” roofer.

In order to earn Master-Elite status, candidates are required to have in place all licensing and insurance requirements, have a proven reputation and show commitment to ongoing professional training. According to a press release, only 2 percent of roofing contractors are able to achieve this certification on a national level.

“Rocky Mountain Exteriors is the first and only roofing contractor in Idaho to receive the GAF President’s Club Award and is set apart from the competition by the industry certifications it has earned for excellence in customer service, training and installation,” Stern said.

As part of its commitment to customers, Stern said the company offers a free 30-point roofing inspection designed to detect problems early.

“People hire us because we offer the highest certifications and quality, and our warranty workmanship is backed by the manufacturers,” Stern said.

Seeing how home looks with a new roof is exciting for Stern.

“The one thing I love more than anything is how a new roof can literally change a home,” he said. “A new roof can last a lifetime. There’s nothing else I’d enjoy doing.”
