Two people were killed in a single-vehicle rollover accident on Highway 237 two miles west of Cove Sunday morning.

The mishap, reported just before 8 a.m., claimed the lives of two adult males according to the Oregon State Police. The names of the two men killed have not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The two men were the only people in a full-sized pickup which failed to negotiate a curve while traveling in the southbound lane of Highway 237 between Cove and Union, according to the OSP. The vehicle rolled off the north side of the road.

First responders who arrived at the scene include the Oregon Department of Transportation, the La Grande Fire Department and the Cove Rural Fire Department.

The pickup involved in the crash was extensively damaged and was towed from the scene.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
