The Union County Chamber of Commerce and the City of La Grande talked Monday night about the next fiscal year and what the future holds for tourism promotion in La Grande.

Union County Chamber of Commerce Director Bob Kavanaugh said he presented the council with a preliminary budget for the upcoming year to give them an idea of what the chamber’s plans will be. The chamber invested money in marketing the county as a whole in the 2017-2018 fiscal year, using print media, social media and videos to generate tourism for the Northeast Oregon region.

“It was exciting to present to the council the work and tourism activity that took place last year,” Kavanaugh told The Observer on Tuesday. “We were recognized by Travel Oregon (this year). It was a huge win for all of Northeast Oregon.”

The chamber likely will receive $75,000 for tourism promotion in 2018-2019 from the city, pending approval by the city council.

The Blue Mountain Conference Center also largely falls under the responsibility of the Chamber of Commerce. The conference center is used for many of the chamber’s events, and the organization receives revenue from those events.
