UNION - The Union City Council will meet for its regular monthly meeting tonight. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. at Union City Hall. Proposed city ordinances will be one of the subjects discussed at the meeting.

The meeting will follow a city council work session. The work session will start at 6 p.m. at Union City Hall.

Workforce board seeks service proposals

The Eastern Oregon Workforce Board posted a Request for Proposal (RFP 16/9-1) for the delivery of services under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act for adult dislocated workers and youth programs.

It targets the employment and training component of the eight Eastern Oregon counties of Baker, Grant, Harney, Malheur, Morrow, Umatilla, Union and Wallowa. Those interested in providing a bid are requested to attend a conference in person or by phone Wednesday, March 16 at the WorkSource Center in La Grande.

The RFP is available at Organizations may bid to provide the services in Area 1: Morrow and Umatilla counties; or Area 2: the other six listed counties; or the bidder may apply for the entire area. Proposals will be accepted through Friday, April 15.

Skate on Thursdays, earn cash for schools

The Maridell Center is offering an all-school skate night every Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The cost is only $5 and skate rental is free for everyone that night. The Maridell Center will keep track of which school students are from and donate $1 per person back to their school. Parents, siblings and friends are also welcome and will count toward the donation tally.

Register now for 'Smart Driver' class

There will be a "Smart Driver" driver safety class on April 16 at Grande Ronde Hospital. The class will go from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with an hour break for lunch.

Free notary public seminar set

A free notary public seminar will run from 9 a.m. to noon March 22 in the Integrated Services Building, Room 147, 1607 Gekeler, La Grande. The information presented at this interactive seminar covers the rules, regulations and best practices for Oregon Notaries Public.

Participants will learn how to properly identify the signer, what to record in their journal and the requirements of an Oregon Notarial Certificate. Training meets the educational requirements for those applying for a commission. Register at or 503-986-2200.
