LA GRANDE — The First United Methodist Church of La Grande will be celebrating the third Sunday of Pentecost at 10 a.m. Pastor Al Trachsel will be preaching from Mark 3:20-35. The sermon will be titled “The Unexpected Jesus.” Jesus is a complicated person who cannot easily be placed in a box. His ministry was unpredictable and unexpected. Fellowship will follow the service.

Neighbors Together meets Tuesday

LA GRANDE — Zion Lutheran Church in La Grande will worship Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Fellowship and fair trade coffee will follow.

Neighbors Together will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Monday and a non-denominational Bible study will meet Tuesday at 6:15 p.m.

Vacation Bible School begins Monday

LA GRANDE, ENTERPRISE — The sermon at Faith Lutheran Church Sunday will focus on Mark 3:20-25. In these verses, Jesus promotes the work of the Holy Spirit. The service in La Grande will be at 10 a.m. and the service in Enterprise will be at 2 p.m.

Faith Lutheran is offering a Vacation Bible School, Splash Canyon: God’s Promise of Life’s Wild Ride. It will be June 11 through June 15 in La Grande from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Bible lessons, crafts, music, recreation, snacks and fellowship with friends will be available for children age three through eleven.

Women give Prayer Shawl Ministry presentation LA GRANDE — Meg Valentine, Robin Ostermann, Ellen Barton, Ernie Baker and Yvonne Stubblefield will join forces Sunday to present information about the Prayer Shawl Ministry of First Presbyterian Church of La Grande during Sunday’s service. Anyone who has been the recipient of a prayer shawl is invited to bring it with them. The service will be at 9:30 a.m.

Young Life of Union County give car wash

COVE — Grace Community Lutheran Church in Cove will celebrate God’s word Sunday with a special service at 10 a.m. The women of the church will conduct the worship service and the sermon will be titled “A House Divided.” During fellowship, a member’s 98th birthday will be celebrated and a luncheon will be served.

Tomorrow, Saturday, Young Life of Union County will have a car wash in the Grocery Outlet parking lot beginning at 10 a.m. The funds raised will help send kids to summer camp.

Sermon centers on spiritual gifts

LA GRANDE — Pastor Ray Smith’s message Sunday at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in La Grande will be called “All Those Wonderful Differences.” It will focus on the different gifts given to the body of Christ. The scripture will be Romans 12:1-13. The 10 a.m. service will be followed by a no-host lunch at the Smokehouse Restaurant at 11:45 a.m.

Theology of ‘substitutionary atonement’ explained

LA GRANDE — Christ took on the penalty of sin for all people. Pastor Mike will expound on what this means tomorrow, Saturday, at the La Grande Seventh-day Adventist Church. The service will be at 11 a.m. A Bible study will precede the service at 9:30 a.m.

Landmark Missionary Church changes service time

LA GRANDE — The First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church of La Grande will be changing its Sunday evening worship service to 3 p.m. effective June 10. The 5 p.m. service will no longer be held.
