ISLAND CITY — The City of Island City will be working in connection with Hampton Paving to improve McAlister Road. The work is scheduled to begin July 13 with the closure of the southbound lanes both Friday and Saturday. Truck traffic will be re-routed, and local traffic will be able to access their homes through detours. A tentative schedule for the northbound lane closure is July 19-21.

Senior Center hosts picnic in the park Thursday

LA GRANDE — The Union County Senior Center is hosting a fried chicken picnic from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 12 at Riverside Park in La Grande. All are welcome. For seniors who cannot attend the picnic, a hot meal will be served at the center at 11:30 a.m.

Golf tournament benefits Chief Joseph Summer Camp

JOSEPH — Due to the pending sale of the Buhler Ranch, the Chief Joseph Summer Camp will be held at the Ferguson Ridge Ski Area outside of Joseph. The camp is for children going into grades 2-6. To help cover the costs of relocating the camp, The Lions Club is hosting a golf tournament at Alpine Meadows July 21 to raise funds. The event will include a variety of prizes, dinner and a Calcutta auction. Entry fee is $150 per person, which can be paid online at www.skifergi.com or sent to the Lions at P.O. Island City boards meet this week

ISLAND CITY — The Island City Sanitation District Board will meet at 1 p.m.. July 11 at Island City City Hall on Island Avenue. The meeting will include a budget hearing. On July 12, the Island City Cemetery District Board will meet at 11 a.m., also at Island City City Hall. The agenda includes maintenance, mowing, and watering reports. All interested persons are welcome to attend both meetings.
