UNION — The Veteran of Foreign Wars High Valley Post 4060 has announced its members “have caught the pesky Ground Hog” and will serve it for breakfast on Groundhog Day, Feb. 2, from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (or until the Ground Hog runs out) at the VFW Hall in Union. Log rolling Saturdays are back

LA GRANDE — Veterans’ Memorial Pool invites you to “come test your lumber Jack or Jill skills, challenge a friend, and get some good old-fashioned exercise” on log rolling Saturdays. Back by popular demand, the log will be out and ready to use Feb. 2 and March 2 between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Cost is regular admission or any current membership.

Elgin Stampede Crab Feed set for Saturday

ELGIN — The annual Elgin Stampede Crab Feed takes place Feb. 2 at the Elgin Stampede Hall on Highway 82 beginning at 4 p.m. and continuing until the crab is gone. The meal includes all-you-can eat crab with baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw and garlic bread. Age 65 and older eat for $36, age 13-64 for $39, age 8-12 for $28 and age 7 and younger
for $13.

ACE now offers preschool

“Preschool at ACE with Miss Jenny” will be offered February through May at Art Center East, 1006 Penn Ave., La Grande. The morning preschool will be held from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, for children ag 30 months to 6 years. Tuition is $140 for ACE members, $160 for non-members.

Miss Jenny will lead the children through an enriching morning of Montessori-style activities, including art, music, fine motor skills and an introduction to basic math and science concepts. Children will learn in an environment that values cooperation, creativity and personal expression. LG School District continues work on strategic plan

La Grande School District Strategic Plan Committee will meet Feb. 5 in the District Office Conference Room at 1305 N. Willow. The purpose of the meeting, which will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., is to continue to work on the district’s strategic plan.

Friends of Scouting breakfast on Feb. 6

LA GRANDE — The annual Friends of Scouting fundraiser breakfast will be served Feb. 6 at the Presbyterian Friendship Center, 1204 Spring St., La Grande, starting a 6:30 a.m. The cost of the breakfast has been covered by an anonymous donor, but those attending are invited to leave a contribution. Youth and adult Eagle Scouts will share the values they learned from Scouting, and attendees will enjoy a breakfast prepared by Master Chef Merlyn Baker and a video from the annual Klondike Derby snow competition. Chair exercise class is free and open to all

The Union County Senior Center offers an exercise class with chairs three times a week. The free class is open to all ages and is held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the senior center, 1504 N. Albany St., La Grande.
