Union City Council to meet Monday

UNION — The Union City Council will meet Monday for its regular monthly meeting and a work session.

The work session will start at 6 p.m. and the city council meeting will begin at 7 p.m. The work session and meeting will both be at city hall.

Cove City Council holds special meeting this evening

COVE — The City of Cove will hold a special council meeting at 5 p.m. today at Cove City Hall, 504 Alder. The meeting will include an executive session to discuss hiring a public works director.

College, Career & Military Fair is open to all

LA GRANDE — La Grande High School is hosting a College, Career & Military Fair March 12, which is open to all ages and any interested members of the community. The event will begin in the LHS Commons with a 6 p.m. presentation by the Oregon Public Universities, after which attendees may visit the tables set up with information and ask questions of representatives until 8 p.m.

Translater district board meets Monday

LA GRANDE — The Blue Mountain Translator District Board of Directors will hold a regular meeting at noon March 11 in the meeting room of Umpqua Bank, 1215 Adams Ave., La Grande. The agenda and board packet will be posted at www.bmtd.org/public-notice.

LG City commissions meet, announce vacancies

LA GRANDE — The City of La Grande Community Landscape & Forestry Commission will meet March 12, the Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission meets March 21, and the Arts Commission meets March 27. Each meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Parks & Recreation Office in Pioneer Park.

LG Rural Fire Protection Board meets Tuesday

ISLAND CITY — The La Grande Rural Fire Protection Board will meet March 12. The board meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the La Grande Rural Fire Hall, 10200 S. McAlister Road. The La Grande Rural Fire Protection District Board oversees the operation of the La Grande Rural Fire Department. The department, based in Island City, provides emergency medical and fire service throughout Union County.

Retired educators group learn about Mt. Howard Tram

LA GRANDE — The Union County Retired Educators will meet at 11:30 a.m. March 13 at the Flying J restaurant on Highway 30 near La Grande. Guest speaker Bill Wittemore will talk about the Mt. Howard Tram at Wallowa Lake.

La Grande School Board meets March Wednesday

LA GRANDE — The Board of Directors of the La Grande School District will have a regular board meeting beginning at 7 p.m. March 13 in the District Office Conference Room at 1305 N. Willow St., La Grande. At the end of the meeting, the board will convene an executive session to receive an update on labor negotiations and to hear a complaint brought against an employee.

OTEC conducts survey of its member-owners

BAKER CITY — Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative, which provides electricity across four counties in Eastern Oregon, wants to know what the member-owners think about the electric cooperative. Beginning the week of March 11, 250 randomly selected OTEC member-owners in Baker, Grant, Harney and Union counties will be contacted by phone and online to participate in a member satisfaction survey.

“OTEC strives to respect the time of its members. We know that you are busy, so when we decide to conduct or participate in surveys there are reasons,” said Andrew Cutler, OTEC’s manager of communications and public relations. “These surveys are our report card, showing us areas where we need to improve how we serve you.”

MedQuest camp application deadline is March 14

LA GRANDE — MedQuest, an immersive week-long camp designed to expose high school students to the vast array of career options in health care, will be held June
16-21 on the Eastern Oregon University campus in La Grande. Applicants must be Oregon students in grades 9-12. The cost for the week is $400, which covers all lodging, meals and supplies. Two gardening classes offered next week

ISLAND CITY — The OSU Extension Master Gardener Program’s classes are open to community members for $5. There will be two classes next week. On March 12, Oregon State University Professor Brooke Edmunds will give a class on Integrated Pest Management. On March 14, Weed Identification will be presented by Samatha Bernards and Brian Clapp from Tri County Weeds. Each three-hour class begins at 5:30 p.m. in the conference room at the Union County Extension Office, 10507 N. McAlister Road, Island City.
