Day camp encourages entrepreneurship

LA GRANDE — La Grande Parks and Recreation is offering a week-long Youth Entrepreneur Camp beginning July 15 and culminating in a day of running a lemonade stand on July 20. Featuring field trips, mentors and guest speakers, the day camp is part of Lemonade Day, an educational initiative designed to introduce youth to entrepreneurship through the real world experience of starting their own business — a lemonade stand. The camp will run from 8 a.m. to noon at Rotary Pavilion in Pioneer Park and is open to ages 6-12. The registration fee is $25. Bring back the art of letter writing

LA GRANDE — Art Center East is holding a monthly Letter Writing Social for anyone who loves snail mail, beautiful stationery and writing letters by hand. Create one-of-a-kind mail while socializing in the ACE Co-Op Gallery from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 23 and Aug. 27. Basic supplies for letter writing and envelope decorating, as well as some writing prompts, will be provided. There will be light refreshments, including brewed tea from Union County’s Teahouse. Take free computer classes in La Grande

LA GRANDE — Training & Employment Consortium, a part of WorkSource La Grande, 1901 Adams Ave., offers free computer instruction year-round. A four-day QuickBooks class will be held July 30 and Aug. 1, 6 and 7. The next monthly one-day Introduction to Computers class is scheduled for Aug. 3. All classes run from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. These classes are open to the public at no charge but participants must register prior to the first day of the class by calling Glenna at 541-963-7111 ext. 248.

Get ready for ‘new wildfire reality’

JOSEPH — Wallowology will host a free evening lecture, “Preparing Ourselves for the New Wildfire Reality,” at 7 p.m. July 11. The presentation will be given by Chris Dunn, PhD., College of Forestry, OSU. The Wallowology Center is located at 508 N. Main St., Joseph.
