UNION — The Union City Council will meet at 7 p.m. tonight. It will follow a city council work session, which will start at 6 p.m. The meeting and work session will both be at city hall.

The city council will review annually scheduled water and sewer rate adjustments during the work session.

At the city council meeting Mayor Leonard Flint will make a recommendation on filling the city’s city administrator/recorder position, the city’s bell tower will be discussed and other topics will be addressed.

Union School Board to meet

UNION — The Union School Board will meet Wednesday. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. at the high school athletic complex. Facilities will be one of the subjects discussed at the meeting.

IC City Council meets tonight

ISLAND CITY — Island City’s city council will meet tonight. The meeting will
begin at 7 p.m. at city hall. The city’s water upgrade project will be one of the subjects discussed at the meeting.

Legislators give weekly updates during short session

ENTERPRISE, LA GRANDE — Senator Bill Hansell (District 29) and Representative Greg Barreto (District 58) have partnered with the Wallowa County Chamber of Commerce, Union County Farm Bureau and OSU Extension Service to provide local constituents with weekly updates during the 2018 short legislative session via live video-conference connection to the Oregon State Capitol. The video conference series provides a timely opportunity to interact with elected officials regarding proposed legislation of interest to you.

Interested parties may participate in the sessions by attending in person at the OSU Extension Service
office in Wallowa County (668 NW First St., Enterprise) or in Union County (10507 N. McAlister Rd., Island City). The sessions begin at 7 a.m. Feb. 13, 20 and 27 and March 6. Tickets are limited for Daddy-Daughter Dance

LA GRANDE — The theme of this year’s Daddy-Daughter Dance is “A Magical Evening in Camelot. Sponsored by La Grande Rotary, the dance will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Blue Mountain Conference Center, 404 12th St., La Grande. The dance is for young ladies, grades K-8, accompanied by dads or other male relatives or guardians. Tickets are $50 per couple ($10 for each additional young lady). ACE offers jewelry, painting and leather classes

LA GRANDE — Upcoming classes at La Grande’s Art Center East include Intro to Wire Wrapped Jewelry on Feb. 16. The two-hour class begins at 5:30 p.m. Participants will learn to create unique earrings and pendants using stones and wires. The class is for age 14 and older and will be taught by Elizabeth Spurgeon. Cost is $35 ($28 for ACE members).

On Feb. 17, Jan Clark will lead a watercolor workshop: Mt. Emily with Canola Fields. The class will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Artists will focus on technique for capturing the various textures of the composition. The class is for age 15 and older and costs $75 ($65 for ACE members).

In The Art of Leather Stamping: Book Cover on Feb. 18, students will learn how to make their own decorative leather book cover, including stamping, engraving, painting and sewing. The four-hour class begins at
1:30 p.m. and is taught by Inga Ojala. The minimum age is 15, and the cost is $85 ($75 for ACE members).
