SPOKANE, Wash. — Avista Utilities issued a press release urging customers to be alert for anyone pretending to be from Avista. The release said to be aware of anyone who shows up unexpectedly at your home asking for inside access or uses high pressure tactics to demand immediate payment to avoid having your service disconnected.

Be aware that Avista employees and contractors must always display a photo ID badge and typically wear a reflective vest or other apparel with the Avista logo on it. All Avista vehicles and contract vehicles also will have the Avista logo present. Avista employees will never ask customers to purchase a pre-paid debit or credit card to make a payment.

Customers who suspect or experience fraud or feel threatened should contact local authorities and then call Avista’s customer service at (800) 227-9187. This number may also be used to verify an employee’s or contractor’s identity. For more information, visit www.myavista.com.

Wallowa Land Trust shares plan for conservation efforts

JOSEPH, LOSTINE — The Wallowa Land Trust is holding a pair of open houses to share its official Conservation Plan with the public. Developed with public input, the plan outlines Wallowa County’s priority conservation areas. An open house in Joseph will be held Feb. 21 at Hurricane Creek Grange, 63081 Hurricane Creek Road. A second open house will be held March 7 in Lostine at South Fork Grange, 317 Rosewell St. Each event will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Drinks and refreshments will be provided.

Extension Office offers pesticide training

ISLAND CITY, ENTERPRISE — Pre-exam training for the 2018 OSU Extension Northeast Oregon Private Pesticide Applicator exam is offered this week in Union and Wallowa counties.
