LA GRANDE — St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in La Grande will observe the feast of Pentecost with Holy Eucharist at 9 a.m. Sunday. The Rev. Kathryn Macek will preside and preach. The vestry will meet following the coffee hour.

Centering prayer will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel. A midweek Eucharist will be offered at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, also in the chapel.

Zion Lutheran announces Housing Matters meeting

LA GRANDE — Zion Lutheran Church in La Grande will worship at 9:30 a.m. Sunday with Pastor Colleen Nelson. Fellowship and fair trade coffee follow.

Housing Matters Union County will meet from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the NEO Transit Building, 2204 E. Penn, La Grande, next door to the Greyhound bus station. Also on Monday, the Grande Ronde Auxiliary will meet at the church from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Tuesday, the ZLCW Bible study group meets at 9:30 a.m., and the non-denominational Bible study begins at 6:15 p.m.

Worship service celebrates the Ascension

COVE — This Sunday Grace Community Lutheran Church will celebrate the Ascension of Our Lord at the 10 a.m. worship service. Pastor Carl’s sermon, “Ascension of Christ,” is taken from John 15. Adult Sunday school meets at 9 a.m. Fellowship this Sunday will be at the Cove Restaurant.

Union County Young Life will hold a car wash and plant sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 19 at the Grocery Outlet in La Grande. Donations from the event will be used to send kids to camp this summer.

Pentecost centers on coming of Holy Spirit

LA GRANDE — This Sunday Faith Lutheran Church in La Grande will observe the 50th day after Passover, which was a celebration in the Jewish tradition called Pentecost. Christians today celebrate Pentecost as the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise that the Holy Spirit would come upon the faithful in order that people could understand each other. The service begins at 10 a.m. and is followed by the the monthly council meeting.

Congregants’ clothing reflect flames of Pentecost

LA GRANDE — The La Grande First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will celebrate Pentecost at 10 a.m. Sunday with guest speaker Sally Weins bringing the message, “Meeting God at the Rainbow.” She will reference Genesis 9:8-16 and Luke 1:67-79. Congregants are encouraged to wear clothing in the warm colors of the flames of Pentecost, such as red, orange, yellow or burgundy.

The men’s Breakfast Fellowship group will meet at 8 a.m. Monday at the Smokehouse Restaurant for a no-host breakfast.

Message focuses on eternal life

LA GRANDE — “You Can Have Life if You Want It” is the title of the message Pastor Al Mortimer will bring from 1 John 5:13 at Sunday’s service at the La Grande Church of the Nazarene. This scripture answers the questions: What it eternal life, where is it found, and how is it obtained? Sunday school is held at 9:15 a.m. and the worship service begins at 10:30 a.m.
