GRH warns of in telephone scam
LA GRANDE — Recently Grande Ronde Hospital has experienced an increase in patients reporting telephone scamming incidents in which the caller ID appears to be a legitimate GRH phone number. The caller uses deceptive tactics to solicit funds or obtain personal or financial information. One method is to request payment on a bill and ask for a credit card number. This is not how GRH conducts business. Please use caution and be proactive in protecting yourself against this telephone fraud. Do not give out your personal or financial information. Color the Blues Autism Walk includes Family Fun Day
LA GRANDE — Riverside Park will be the venue for the Color the Blues Autism Walk and Family Fun Day June 23. The fun will begin at 10 a.m. with the walk beginning at 11 a.m. There will be face painting, crafts, raffles, a bouncy house, a sensory table, autism awareness merchandise, community resource tables, a quiet area and more. Lunch is free for all registered participants. The $14 registration fee for adults and $11 for children also includes an event T-shirt. Children age two and younger are free, but T-shirts are not available for them.
Island City City Council has work session
ISLAND CITY — The 7 p.m. Island City City Council meeting on June 25 will be a work session at Island City Hall. The focus will be the findings of the Greenway Exploration Committee. Public comment is not anticipated to be allowed at this meeting.

Learn to be “lost-proof” in the wilderness
JOSEPH — Participants in a workshop on wilderness orienting will meet in the Gold Room at 100 N. Main St. in Joseph at 9 a.m. June 30. Danny Frank will lead a morning classroom session followed by an afternoon of orientation in the foothills of the Wallowa Mountains. This course will equip participants with the necessary skills to remain “lost-proof” in a wilderness setting. Participants will learn to interpret maps, recognize landscapes and use a compass. Storm causes power outage in Cove
COVE — At 11:55 p.m. June 20, a power outage was reported in the Cove area affecting approximately 745 members. The cause appeared to be related to a severe weather event of lightning moving through the area. Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative linemen worked through the night and the power was restored early Thursday morning, June 21.

Oregon advocates push to restore rail passenger service
THE DALLES — Rail advocates began a push to restore rail passenger service along the Oregon side of the Columbia Gorge at a June 20 meeting in The Dalles where they started the planning process for an Eastern Oregon Rail Passenger Summit to be held at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande in March 2019.
