Pioneer festival kicks off with Old Time Fiddlers show
EMIGRANT SPRINGS — This year’s Heritage Days begins with a free show by the Blue Mountain Old-Time Fiddlers at 6 p.m. July 12 in the community room at Emigrant Springs State Heritage Area, off I-84 north of La Grande. The festival continues July 13-14 at Emigrant Springs, featuring muzzle loaders, woodcarvers, pioneer activities, gold panning, a scavenger hunt for kids and food and beverages courtesy of the Oregon Trail Store & Deli. Also, the Women of Timber will present the uses of trees and how to make paper. Each day’s festivities concludes with a free 6 p.m. show by the Blue Mountain Old-Time Fiddlers. Wallowology throws a ‘Star Party’
WALLOWA LAKE — Wallowology invites the community to a Star Party Friday night at Wallowa Lake State Park near the marina. The event begins at 7 p.m. with astronomy activities until dusk, followed by star-gazing through telescopes until midnight. All ages are welcome at this free event.
Elgin Stampede Breakfast served Saturday morning
ELGIN — The annual Elgin Stampede Breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. July 14 at the Elgin Masonic Hall at Eighth and Division. Cost is $6, and children younger than 5 eat free.
Slovenian beekeeping workshop open to all
LA GRANDE — Reverend Andy Kennaly, who recently visited Slovenia and learned the techniques and tools of beekeeping, will give a presentation on the Slovenian A-Z hive system from 10 a.m. to noon July 14 at the Presbyterian Friendship Center, 1204 Spring Ave., La Grande. Wallowa County Fly-In set this weekend
JOSEPH — Touted by organizers as the “Best Little Airshow in Oregon,” the Wallowa County Fly-In will include a banquet and a pancake breakfast this weekend at the Joseph State Airport. The event begins with a banquet open to all at 5:30 p.m. July 13. There will be live music and a silent and live auction with items donated by Wallowa County businesses. On July 14, a pancake breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday’s fly-in will feature a static display of numerous aircraft and interactive education booths, and the West Coast Ravens will perform formation flying. The event is a fundraiser for the Northeast Oregon Aviation Foundation to support advancing aviation education in Wallowa County schools. Banquet tickets are $25 for adults and $15 fro age 18 and younger. Admission on Saturday is $5. Admission and breakfast is $10. Children younger than 12 eat free.
