Piano and woodwinds concert supports PEO scholarships

JOSEPH — The Philanthropic Educational Association (PEO) of Wallowa County is presenting a benefit concert for women’s scholarships at 2 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Josephy Center in Joseph. Gail Swart and Mark Eubanks will perform popular, jazz and classical favorites on piano and woodwinds. For 101 years, the Wallowa County chapter of PEO has provided financial aid to women in the county, mostly from members’ own donations. Admission to the concert is $10, $5 for students. Additional donations to the scholarship fund are welcome.

Wyden comes to
town next week

LA GRANDE — Sen. Ron Wyden will be in Union County Oct. 23 for a town hall beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the La Grande High School auditorium, 708 K Ave. The entrance is on Second Street between H & K Avenues. Wyden has stayed true to his promise that he would hold at least one annual town hall in each of the state’s 36 counties. Wyden has already fulfilled that annual town hall promise in 2018 for all of Oregon’s counties, holding 44 town halls so far this year. The upcoming town hall in La Grande will be his second this year in Union County.

Registration open for parenting class

LA GRANDE — Parenting with Love and Logic, a seven-session parenting class sponsored by the Union County Family Law Committee, will begin Oct. 23. Sessions will be held on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Head Start Building at 1810 14th St.,
La Grande. Parents will learn helpful ideas for setting limits, avoiding power struggles and taking the anger out of discipline. The class is facilitated by Mary Lu Pierce and the cost is $10 per person for the workbook. Child care is provided but limited. Early registration is advised by calling Pierce at 541-910-4004.​
