Another person has been arrested in the case of the Loretta Williams murder.

According to a press release, Steve Hamilton, 65, was arrested Thursday on charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder by the Union County Major Crimes Team.

In criminal law, a conspiracy is an agreement between two or more persons to commit a crime at some time in the future, according to the Shelf Law website.

Hamilton is the current executive director of Post Acute Rehab in La Grande.

Williams’ ex-husband, Ronald D. Lee, was arrested in February on charges of murder.

Sheriff Boyd Rasmussen said the two were acquaintances but would not further elaborate on the relationship between Hamilton and Lee.

Rasmussen declined to comment on the reason for Hamilton’s later arrest than Lee’s.

He did confirm there would be no further arrests in the case.

Both arrests were made based on an indictment issued by a Union County Grand Jury after an investigation by the Union County Major Crimes Team. The Major Crimes Team consists of members from the Union County Sheriff’s Office, the La Grande Police Department, the Oregon State Police and the Union County District Attorney’s Office.

In November, The Observer reported Loretta Williams called 911 to report a man in her backyard at approximately 1:40 a.m. The dispatchers heard her confront the man and then heard a loud noise. Deputies and troopers arrived within minutes and found Williams dead of one or more apparent gunshot wounds.

Lee and Williams were married until July 2018, according to court records.
