ELGIN — The Elgin School Board Budget Committee will meet at 6 p.m. May 20 in Room 17 of Stella Mayfield School. A regular session of the school board follows at 6:30 p.m.

R&C Family Store celebrates reopening Saturday

LA GRANDE — The new owners of R&C Family Store on Bearco Loop in La Grande are hosting an open house and ribbon cutting May 18 to mark the changeover. The event will run from 10 a.m to 4 p.m., with the official ribbon cutting at noon. The date of the celebration has been changed to Saturday.

Dance to live fiddlers at senior center

LA GRANDE — The Blue Mountain Old Time Fiddlers is putting on a show beginning at 6 p.m. May 18 at the Union County Senior Center, 1504 N. Albany St., La Grande. Admission to the evening of music and dancing is $5 for age 13 through adult. All are welcome, with those 12 and younger getting in free.

Class covers wine, yoga and other self-management techniques

LA GRANDE — A “Wine & Yoga” event hosted by Colleen McIntosh’s Hol-Impact Wellness will be held from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 25 at Wine Down’s new location, 115 Depot St., La Grande. Attendees will enjoy wine and snacks, connect with others and learn self-management techniques. Space is limited. Pre-registration is $35; registration the day of (space allowing) will be $50. Attorney to speak on copyright and intellectual property law

JOSEPH — The Josephy Center welcomes Bert Krages II, Attorney at Law, May 23 to speak about copyright and intellectual property law. Writers, musicians, photographers and artists could learn more ways to protect their art at the 7 p.m. presentation. The event is free but donations are welcome.

Krages’ visit to the Josephy Center came about through artist MC Reardon, a visual artist who last year discovered an art print company was selling her images on their website without her consent. Krages, who specializes in intellectual property and copyright law, helped her understand what she needed to do to protect herself and her creative work. Reardon co-sponsored the event so that other artists could benefit from Klages’ legal advice.

Imbler School Board reviews budget

IMBLER — The Imbler School District Budget Committee will meet for a regular session at 6:30 p.m. May 21 in Room 1 of Imbler High School. The committee will discuss and review the 2019-20 proposed budget. A regular board meeting will immediately follow the budget meeting. The public is welcome to attend all open sessions of the Imbler School District Board of Directors.

LHS Baccalaureate honors students’ hard work

LA GRANDE — Baccalaureate at La Grande High School is a nondenominational celebration to honor the accomplishment of earning an academic degree. The celebration recognizes the graduates’ hard work and reminds them of their responsibilities as educated citizens. This ceremony for the graduates of the LHS Class of 2019 will be held at 6:30 p.m. May 22 in the La Grande High School Auditorium.

Registration open for concealed handgun class

LA GRANDE — The Union County Sheriff’s Office will be offering a Concealed Handgun Class June 1. The Saturday class starts promptly at 8 a.m. at the Union County Sheriff’s Office, 1109 K Ave., La Grande. The cost of the class is $50, and pre-registration is required.
