Donald A. Jordan

La Grande

1931-2019

Donald Arthur Jordan, 87, of La Grande, died June 14 at his residence. At his request, there will not be a service. His ashes will be spread at his favorite hunting places.

Donald was born July 14, 1931, in Harper, to James H. and Dena (Carter) Jordan. He was married to Evelyn Claire Barnes.

Donald was employed by US Bank for 16 years. He also worked as a real estate broker and resort manager at Boulder Park Resort. Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing and gold mining.

Surviving relatives include his sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Kenna Jordan of Lewiston, Idaho, and Tim and Becky Jordan of Union; daughters and sons-in-law, Theresa and Patrick Henderson of La Grande, and Renae and Willy Crippen of La Grande; and nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dena, and wife, Evelyn.

Matthew W. Doud

Formerly of Union and Wallowa counties

1992-2019

Matthew Wayne Doud, 26, died May 26 at his home in Baker City. A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. June 21 at the Harvest Church in Baker City. Friends are invited to join the family at a reception immediately following at the church.

Matthew was born Dec. 28, 1992, to Mark and Linda (Streeter) Doud in Baker City. He was raised and educated the majority of his life in the Baker and La Grande area. He moved to Joseph, where he graduated high school as an Eagle with the class of 2011. Matthew intended to join the U.S. Navy, but upon the entrance exam it was discovered he had thyroid cancer. He ultimately became cancer-free.

Matthew enjoyed camping and hunting with his dad and grandma Kathy, and picking huckleberries and going on special outings in the woods with his mom, brother and grandma Bertina. He cherished family gatherings, playing games and sharing laughter. Matthew particularly loved eating his grandma Bertina’s cooking. He also enjoyed football and basketball and lettered in both sports.

Matthew loved the Lord Jesus, his family and friends. He was known for inviting people to church and bringing them along with him to Sunday service. Matthew had a kind heart and was a friend to many.

Surviving relatives include his mother, Linda (Streeter) Culbertson; stepfather, Howard Culbertson; father, Mark Doud; brother, Tristian Streeter; and grandmothers, Bertina (Streeter) Eastman and Kathy Doud.

He was preceded in death by grandfathers, Cliff Streeter and Darold “Red” Doud.

1991-2019

Jay Barry “Jay Bird” Freih, 28, of Union, died June 13 at a local care facility. A celebration of his life will be held at 4:30 p.m. June 17 at the La Grande New Hope Church, 2630 Bearco Loop. Casual dress is preferred by the family.

Jay was born on June 2, 1991, in Brewster, Washington, to Nora (Cossitt) Perry. He grew up in Athena and attended Athena schools and Union High School.

Jay loved to eat and listen to music. He enjoyed being surrounded by those who loved him. He loved spending time and laughing with his sister, Lacey. On summer mornings, Jay like to sit peacefully on the front porch listening to the birds and the squirrels. He enjoyed the beautiful fiddle music played by many at his home. Jay loved to have Tiffani and TJ come to his room and serenade him with their guitars. He enjoyed babies and his little dogs.

Survivors include his foster family, Jim, Melody, Tiffany, TJ, Brianna and Jacquelyn Huitt and his cousins; sister, Lacey Perry of Pendleton; and aunts and uncles, Mickey Cossitt, Thomas Cossitt, Tim Cossitt, Bonnie Scenning, Carol Childs, Janet Harrington and Dorthy Cleine.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nora Perry.
