Gayl J. Blom


Gayl J. Blom, 84, of Union, died July 4 at her residence. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. July 13 at the Cove Seventh-day Adventist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Loveland Funeral Chapel of La Grande.

Bessie Inez (Winebarger) Rynearson


Bessie Inez Rynearson, 85, of Enterprise, died July 2. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. July 13 at the Enterprise Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a gathering before the service from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Enterprise Community Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Bollman Funeral Home.

Bessie was born Sept. 19, 1933, in Fox, to Walter and Cora Winebarger. Bessie joined sisters Verna and Norma and brother Earl. Infant twin siblings, Fay and Fred, died in infancy.

Bessie moved with her family to Prairie City in 1943. She graduated from high school in 1951. In November 1952, Bessie married Donald Rynearson. Her sister Norma married Donald’s brother Floyd.

Bessie and Donald had four children: Robert, James, Jeffery and Becky. The family lived in many places in Oregon before settling in Enterprise in 1964.

Bessie was primarily a homemaker and mother through the years. She also sold Avon and Baum toys and also worked as a grocery checker. Later, she and Donald spent some 20 years making and selling crafts throughout the Northwest.

Bessie enjoyed taking care of her flowers, gardening, knitting and sewing. Most of all she loved being with her family.

Surviving relatives include her sister, Norma; sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Dana, Jim and Sue, and Jeff and Darlene; daughter, Becky; seven grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Joshua A. Chaffee


Joshua A. Chaffee, 37, of Elgin, died July 4 at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Washington. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. July 27 at the Elgin Stampede Hall. Casual dress is preferred by the family. An obituary is forthcoming. Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory is handling the arrangements.

Sue Ellen Wirth


Sue Ellen Wirth, 77, of Durkee, died July 4 at St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Nampa, Idaho. No funeral is planned.

Michael J. Berryman

Formerly of La Grande

Michael Joseph Berryman, 31, of Baker City and formerly of La Grande, died June 30 at OHSU. A private graveside service will be held at Rock Creek Cemetery the morning of July 15, followed by a public celebration of life at noon at the Baker City Airport.
