Morgan Farrington scored the game’s only goal in the 43rd minute and the Eastern Oregon defense did the rest, limiting Providence to just one shot in a 1-0 win in the Cascade Collegiate Conference quarterfinals Friday in Springfield.

The only shot managed by the Argos was an attempt pulled left by Sydney Knieriem in the 16th minute. The defense kept goalkeeper Cydni Cottrell from even having to face a shot on goal the entire evening.

Eastern, meanwhile, managed 18 shots and five on goal, and scored when Farrington took a through ball from Mariana Madrigal and scored her second goal of the season — and first since EOU’s season-opening 1-0 win over Vanguard.

The Mountaineers (11-3-2 overall), who recorded their third straight shutout and 11th of the season, face College of Idaho in the semifinals Saturday. The teams played to a scoreless draw in their only meeting during the regular season.
