The La Grande Legacy Ford Legends
Juniors American Legion baseball team went 2-1 on the weekend during Boys of Summer Tournament in Portland.
The Legends closed the tournament on Saturday with a 3-2 loss to KWRL Babe Ruth team from Woodland, Washington. La Grande took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, but KWRL scored twice, including the game-winning RBI single on an 0-2 count for the win.
Logan Williams took the loss for La Grande. He lasted six innings, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out 10.
Cole Jorgensen went 2-for-2 with an RBI at the plate to lead La Grande.
The Legends opened the tournament with a pair of shutout wins on Friday, opening with a 5-0 victory over West Linn 16U and a 15-0 drubbing of Mt. Hood.
Against West Linn, Devin Bell led the Legends to the win on the mound. He surrendered no runs on one hit over five innings, striking out eight. Nick Borstedt threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Williams led the offense with a 2-for-4 outing
Levi Earp threw a gem in the nightcap, allowing zero runs and one hit over six innings, with five strikeouts. Earp did not issue a walk.
La Grande secured the victory with nine runs in the seventh inning. La Grande’s big inning was driven by singles by Logan Williams, Cole Jorgensen, Sergio Staab, and Aiden Stanton, a walk by Brodrick Hood, an error on a ball put in play by Chase Homan, and a double by Nick Borstedt.
La Grande totaled 16 hits in the game. Jorgensen, Cesar Rodriguez, Williams, and Rodriguez each managed multiple hits for the Legends. Jorgensen led La Grande with a 4-for-4 showing. Borstedt drove in three runs.
9-11 Little League Softball
The Union County Little League All-Stars’ quest for a state championship came up a little short on Sunday.
The All-Stars fell 2-1 to Willow Creek Little League in the title game of the 9-11 year-old Oregon State Little League Tournament at Erv Lind Stadium in Portland.
Union County rallied to tie the game at 1-all in the second inning, scoring on a wild pitch. Willow Creek scored the winning run in the bottom of the third.
Neither team managed much offense, finishing with two hits each. Union County committed three errors in the loss.
The All-Stars opened the tournament Friday with a pair of wins, posting a 34-0 drubbing of the South Valley Little League and a 12-2 win over Willow Creek Little League.
Union County continued its winning ways on Saturday with an easy 18-3 rout of Beaumont/North Portland/Scappoose Little League.
