The La Grande Legacy Ford Legends earned one more victory at the American Legion state tournament in Roseburg Monday, but their season ended Tuesday.

On Monday, La Grande earned a 12-2 blowout win over Dr. Randol’s Crowns based out of Roseburg, but the Legends lost Tuesday to the Alpenrose Dairy Red Sox, of Portland, 5-3.

The Legends scored five runs in both the second and third innings to quickly take a sizeable lead and went on to secure the easy win in six innings Monday.

Parker Robinson had a three-run triple sandwiched between RBI singles by Payton Cooper and Nick Bornstedt in the second inning, which ended with La Grande up 5-1.

In the third, Justin Frederick hit a two-run double and later scored on a passed ball, Bornstedt hit another RBI single, and Robinson scored on an error. When the dust settled, La Grande held a 10-2 margin.

A bases-loaded walk in the fifth and an RBI single by Wyatt Earp in the sixth rounded out the scoring.

Robinson, Bornstedt and Cooper each finished with two hits. Cooper added three runs, and three players — Frederick, Earp and Robinson — scored twice.

Devin Bell tossed six innings for the win, allowing two runs on seven hits, walking four and striking out three.

The Red Sox built an early three-run lead en route to a victory as they put an end to La Grande’s season Tuesday.

Three La Grande errors in the first inning led to two Alpenrose runs before Robinson hit an RBI triple in the home half of the frame to make it 2-1. The lead reached 4-1 in the third before an RBI groundout by Bell and a Danny Chamberlain RBI single got the Legends within 4-3 in the fourth. La Grande, though, got no closer.

Robinson (three) and Frederick (two) combined for half of La Grande’s 10 hits. Bornstedt threw a complete game in a losing effort, allowing five runs — two earned — on five hits with a walk and six strikeouts.

With the loss, La Grande finishes the Legion season with a record of 22-9.
