The Eastern Oregon University cross country teams were selected to finish third and fifth in the men’s and women’s Cascade Collegiate Conference preseason coaches’ poll, which was released Monday.
The men’s squad received 79 points in the poll behind just preseason favorite Southern Oregon and No. 2 College of Idaho. SOU had 93 points in the poll and three first-place votes. The Coyotes picked up 90 points, but led with six first-place votes.
Oregon Tech (66 points) and Northwest Christian (64) rounded out the top five, with NCU earning the final first-place vote.
On the women’s side, EOU had 63 points, just
behind fourth-place Northwest Christian, which had 66.
Southern Oregon was also the preseason favorite on the women’s side, winning a tight battle between the Raiders, OIT and C of I. Southern earned 91 points and four first-place votes. Oregon Tech (86) edged the Coyotes by one point, with both garnering three first-place votes.
The Mountaineers begin the 2019 season with their home EOU Invitational Sept. 13 at Lane Farms east of La Grande.
