Max McCullough and Jordan May both scored 19 points to lead four Mountaineers in double figures, and Eastern Oregon pulled away in the second half for an 87-65 win over New Hope Christian Friday in Eugene.

Blake O’Donnell and Brennan Pope added 14 and 12 points, respectively. Pope also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, and McCullough dished out six assists.

EOU held a slim 29-28 lead at the break, and allowed the Deacons to hang around until going on a 15-2 run midway through the second half to finally gain some distance. Peter Eke started the streak with a jumper, and Austin Winegar finished it with a 3-point play for a 61-45 lead with 9:46 to play. The advantage eventually grew to as many as 24 points.

Eastern followed by again topping NHC Saturday, this time coasting to a 102-76 victory in which the Mountaineers scored the first 10 points, never trailed, led by as much as 25 in the first half and 39 in the second half.

Cole Ashby led the way with 22 points and hit six of EOU’s nine 3-pointers. His trey with 12:48 to play gave Eastern its largest lead at
81-42. Paulo Hugo added 20 on 7-of-11 shooting. O’Donnell and May also hit double figures with 17 and 16 points, respectively, and 10 Mountaineers found the scorebook.

Eastern (8-0 overall) visits Utah Valley in an exhibition today, then travels to Southern Oregon for its Cascade Collegiate Conference opener Dec. 2.
